Since the last couple of days' updates, this has got worse. The white screen problem is still there, but now sometimes maximizing a window will cause the desktop to hang completely and a reboot is required. With one window on the screen at a time, it seems OK, but as soon as I have multiple windows open it becomes unusable.
I've had to switch to Unity 2D on this desktop machine pending a fix or workaround.
