One perspective I'd like to add on the configurability or lack thereof of the launcher panel is that for those with triple head systems, it'd be great to be able to place one on the middle screen.
At the moment with Gnome 2, I have top panels on each monitor with the same applets, menus, etc. so that if I only require one monitor for a particular minimalist work flow I can fire up the middle one and still have a usable environment. If I then require a second or third screen I can power them on at will. With the panel being forced to the leftmost edge of the leftmost screen I'm forced to use at a minimum the left most screen which is an ergonomic nightmare. :) I'd love to be able to have one on each screen but would still find it useful to have only one on the middle screen if possible. I believe there's an xml file somewhere I can mod to position the panel at the moment but it'd be great to have a GUI based option somewhere.
