Hello Actually seems a duplicate of bug 656745 but with some variants. Can you please, running Natty and detaching power cable if in your syslog there are entries for Power or Thermal limit exceeded. similar to ([ 4518.607830] intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: MCP power or thermal limit exceeded). Are you running an Usb session created with startup disk creator and persistence? If yes can you please reproduce the issue and attach here the files /var/log/syslog /var/log/kern.log running the live session? When you start Natty (at the login screen) you can choose if start unity (desktop), classical (gnome+compiz), or classical without effect (metacity). Unity is easy, just right click on Apps lens and system is showed, see attached screenshot
