I see this problem in Edgy (gaim 2.0.0 beta 3.1). I tried it in Feisty Beta, but I cannot get online because bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/95560 blocked me from connecting to the gaim accounts, so I have tested it only offline: this worked correctly
