ha ha!
fixed that too. Installed Java 7.
I know that my workaround introduced a different bug for my specific HW, but 
here is the solution to that too. Incase some else out there is also going 
crazy:

Note: current java7 has to be installed manually from:
http://download.java.net/jdk7/
