After some further research I found out that it has nothing to do if you scan one or multiple pages at once. The problem is that when I use the scanner's automatic document feeder the displayed size of the scanned document is quite strange. When I crop the scan to A4 size thereafter it has to be cut on one side (short edge) and to be extended on the other (long edge).
