Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

I discovered it yesterday when learning how to install hplip to get my
new printer working:

I tried downloading the Natty .deb package to install it on my Ubuntu
Maverick, downloading each broken dependency (hplip-data, hplip-cups,
etc).

Finally I realized I had to get python 2.7 which is not in Maverick and
manually downloaded the .deb, which almost broke my system.

However, when downloading the installation wizard hplip-3.11.3a.run
scrpipt directly from hplip website, it calls apt-get to download a
bunch of packages available in Maverick, whithout complaining about my
2.6.6 python at all. It just works.

My impression is therefore that the dependency on python ( >= 2.7 ) in
hplip/natty is spurious, unless there is some specific debian/ubuntu
path to the upstream software that requires something that >= 2.6.6.

Rmk: This is NOT a duplicate of #688002. The dependency is not broken.

** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
