I cannot make update-manager crash - the console output is:
hirsch@kokoromi:~$ sudo `update-manager -d`
(process:3416): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

The whole locale config seems to be broken due to the system upgrade:
root@kokoromi:/home/hirsch# aptitude install kde-l10n-de
The following NEW packages will be installed:
kde-l10n-de language-pack-de-base{ab} language-pack-kde-de{a}
language-pack-kde-de-base{a}
0 packages upgraded, 4 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 2725 kB/30.5 MB of archives. After unpacking 60.9 MB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
language-pack-de-base: Depends: language-pack-de (>= 1:11.04+20110407) but it
is not going to be installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:
Keep the following packages at their current version:
1) kde-l10n-de [Not Installed]
2) language-pack-de-base [Not Installed]
3) language-pack-kde-de [Not Installed]
4) language-pack-kde-de-base [Not Installed]
Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] Y
No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 0 B will be used.
