I have tried the mainline kernel (linux- image-2.6.39-020639rc3-generic_2.6.39-020639rc3.201104120912_amd64.deb) and the behavior is exactly the same. However when using the previous 10.10 kernel (2.6.35-28-generic) under 11.04 the boot time is under 30 seconds.
