I fixed it. I was able to resize the Window Selector Applet with gconf-editor and moving some applets in the panel around so I could access the applet preferences and deleted the WSA and now everything looks OK - I don't know if having a Window Selector Applet resized to invisibility constitutes a bug anymore but . . .
