I also encountered this on Edgy. It occurred after I had enabled quiet
starting of wpa_supplicant. I removed this and the next time I logged
into KDE I was asked to start up wpa_supplicant with the dialogue which
prompts for the correct driver to use and asks for your password. THIS
IS IMPORTANT: If you have an Intel IPW chipset you must choose wext and
not ipw. Give your password, then a new dialogue comes for startup of
KWLAN. I wonder if quietly trying to start wpa_supplicant without root
privileges is what sends things up the spout?
