Robert, I am not able to reproduce this issue with unity-3.8.8 this is
what I did
1. clicked ont the "Applications" launcher in the panel
2. scrolled down the applications a little so that a row of applications gets
behind the search bar.
3. the I tried to click on many different regions of the search bar.
but no app behind the search bar was activated, So do you still face
this issue? if so can you please make a video to show us the steps to
reproduce the problem.
