Ubuntu 8.10 has reached End of Life. It is no longer supported. Hence Ubuntu repositories do not have packages for Ubuntu 8.10. You should use supported versions of Ubuntu. You can see which releases are supported currently and when they will reach EOL at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
