Public bug reported:

Version 7.04; Last updated ~15 April
Brief description: sound stopped working sometime after last update, then after
reboot (2 days later), gnome became very dysfunctional. Workspaces were not
accessible and windows were not movable. New windows appeared in top left of
screen, overlaying gnome menus.

I have no log files as my .xsession-errors was over-written when I was able to
recover gnome. A very similar error file to my old one is available at:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2470379
This link also has a description of seemingly related problems.

I was only able to recover normal usage by removing all ".g*" directories in ~
(I still have these directories around if any config files w/in them can be
useful for debugging)

Sound is still unavailable in Ubuntu, although it works under Windows so
is probably not hardware related.

These are my first problems in 7.04 and they only appeared after
updating packages over the weekend.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
