Ah, it looks like this bug (if it is one, which I guess it probably
isn't) would actually be in the Gnome system defaults, as I've just
changed the shortcuts set up in Gnome from the defaults (0xa2 for play,
0xa4 for stop, 0x90 for prev, 0x99 for next) to the various XF86Audio*
keys. I assume that the defaults are what multifunction keyboards send.
Thinkpads, I guess, are a slight exception to this rule. Now it's
working quite handily after setting up my own hotkeys.
