As I try this again I can see that while I'm getting the messages: start: Job failed to start invoke-rc.d: initscript apport, action "start" failed.
I'm not getting the messages: dpkg: error processing apport (--install): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 and apport-gtk does seem to install. Unmarked as duplicate.
