As to what that action should be... I'm thinking once you have a good feel for the frequency/conditions of this freeze if you can downgrade to the 2.6.38-8.41 kernel and verify it does not freeze there, we can go looking for what caused the regression. The recent xorg-server and mesa upgrades are also possible candidates for causing a gpu lockup.
