The main thing that I'm wondering (I also have this issue), is why is
EDID information even needed by the kernel?  Especially in Lucid Server?
No gui installed, so I don't even see why it should care, as it not
running an X server.  Which begs me to ask, why is this not in Xorg,
instead of kernel?
