Note - I'm running maverick, and recently added the "proposed" repository, which is why I'm getting Package: grub-pc 1.98+20100804-5ubuntu3.1 rather than ...5-ubuntu-3 which is the current official release.
I left the dialog box choice "Continue without installing GRUB?" unchecked, and it took me back to the "Configuring grub-pc" dialog. I again checked only /dev/sda, and clicked Forward, and again it complained that I was choosing to not install GRUB. Very confusing. So I checked the box, and was able to continue. After the upgrade process finished (yeah - I left it in progress for days while I got advice), I tried to find anything in the grub config files that was being updated, but found nothing. My /boot/grub/grub.cfg file was updated at the beginning of the install process, due to the installation of the new kernel Linux 2.6.35-29-generic. Afterwards I did a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc" from the command line that asked some of the same questions, and it seemed to pay attention to my answers this time. And again nothing seems to have changed in the configuration. This time I saw no questions about having changed the config files manually. All rather confusing and scary. If nothing else, the bug to be fixed is the need for a functioning "back" button in the config dialogs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/768013 Title: grub-pc upgrade: can't back out of configuration, don't know how to proceed -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
