After connecting to a wireless network using nm-applet on a Sony
VPCM12M1E using the RT3090 internal wireless card, no websites or
network resources will load except for my wireless router, but only when
accessed directly from it's IP address. When I try to connect to
websites the DNS request will time out, and when I try and connect to
the website directly from it's IP address, it times out as well.
Intermittently it will be possible to use it as normal for a short time
(usually a few seconds), especially after reboots or when connected to
power, but usually it fails, especially after suspending, hibernating or
disconnecting/reconnecting. Also, if disable and then re-enable the
wireless from the hardware switch, no networks will be detected at all.
This problem did not happen in Ubuntu 10.10 or Windows 7, only in 11.04.
I have made sure the hash is the same between the downloaded .iso and
the version on the Ubuntu servers before installing 11.04. All
available updates are installed as well.
I have tried re-installing both the 32 and 64 bit versions, and both
have the same problem. I tried installing Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10
Netbook Edition afterwards and networking worked fully in both of them.
The problem does not occur when using a different wireless adapter or
ethernet to connect to the network either. Also, I am within range of
the network and there are no known hardware issues with the internal
wireless card.
