Hello, Charlie, thanks for the feedback.

Removing "splash" and "quiet" from the boot instruction does not change
anything. Btw, I thought that removing "quiet" should allow me to see
the instructions carried out during the booting process? It does not in
this case: just the blank purple screen I've been seeing ever since
Natty -no Ubuntu logo either.

In any event, the computer still does not shutdown. It stays on, in the
kind of situation you get when it does not hibernate properly: black
screen, totally unresponsive -except from Alt+SysRq+b- but on.
