Actually the logout option was, (and could be), quite useful in a live session, 
particularly  from a "try me" perspective.
Users may want to ck. hardware support, some of which is only available from 
additional drivers and then requires a log out and in to load, 
The nouveau 3d drivers for nvidia is one clear example,  users should be 
presented with a clearer way to ck. support and be able to preview the unity 
shell itself.
The same may also  apply to some wireless hardware

In that regard the log out option with username ubuntu, no password,  is a bit 
more obvious than a 4 key  combo than many won't know about. 
The fact that add. drivers erroneously prompts for a restart when it's not 
required for the nouveau 3d drivers, while  another issue,   should not be 
factor in removing this option. 
(Honestly, the "try me"  experience could use some improvement in this area
