FWIW you can install KDE in a standard Ubuntu, the guide is here:

Besides that, there is not enough information to accurately attempt to
find a fix for your first issue, if the bios or windows can't see the
drive, then that is an issue for those people.

Again fwiw there was some discussion here:

Which suggests it might be something in your BIOS like RAID being
enabled.

I'm going to close this bug report, but if you have any more information
or still have the issue feel free to re-open by going to status and
selecting new.
