The xorg maintainer gave some directions for diagnosing the issue in
comment #8. There's been two dozen comments since then but no one gave
the info he requested...
In any case, judging from the comments this is a kernel bug (not X) and
that if someone did a git bisect on the kernel they should be able to
locate the patch that fixes it, and propose for inclusion in a stable
kernel update, if you feel strongly about getting this fix into lucid.
