Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdm
Package version: 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu20
/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and /etc/kde3/kdm/backgroundrc don't default to
kubuntu artwork, but to no or standard debian theming.
>From [backgroundrc]:
[...]
Wallpaper=debian-kde_default.png
[...]
>From [kdmrc]:
[...]
# Whether the greeter should be themed.
# Default is false
#UseTheme=true
# The theme to use for the greeter. Can point to either a directory or an XML
# file.
# Default is ""
Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/circles
[...]
For comparison, settings from the Live-CD are:
>From [backgroundrc]:
[...]
Wallpaper=kubuntu-wallpaper.png
[...]
>From [kdmrc]:
[...]
# Whether the greeter should be themed.
# Default is false
UseTheme=true
# The theme to use for the greeter. Can point to either a directory or an XML
# file.
# Default is ""
Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/kubuntu
[...]
While I understand from Bug#58639 that this may be intended behaviour in
regard of customized or minimal installations, applying those settings
on upgrades will disable Kubuntu artwork in kdm. (Re-)Enabling Kubuntu
theming needs the user to edit config files; there should be an easier
way to do this. One possible solution would be to ask the user via
debconf what kind of default theming (s)he would prefer.
** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Unconfirmed
