As a matter of facts, I have got the same problem. I tried some tricks found here and there to configure properly my device but I only got the eraser to work properly. I bought this PenPartner years ago fot my old iMac, and I found it last Weekend under a pile of olds CDs ...
So I can't say it ever worked under Ubuntu but On my old iMac under mac OS 9 it works fine.
