Public bug reported: This bug is intermittent. I do reproduce it, but it depends on something, I suspect memory and processor temperature.
I use a HP laptop, Compaq 6715b. 0. power source = AC 1. Boot a computer. (If you try to suspend right now, you will see no problem.) 2. open google chrome, read some news, the last time I watched http://edition.cnn.com/video 3. if the flash plug-in begins to crash, you are likely ready. Note that the air going out of the CPU cooler is warm. 4. suspend the computer. Now the screen dims and the cooler will be... well, I have seen 3 behaviours: a) at full speed b) at half speed c) stopped I underline, sometimes the cooler does not stop. Now, try to awake the computer. On my HP Compaq 6715b, this is done by a short press of the power button. WHAT HAPPENS: Nothing happens. (The cooler may be working or not working.) WHAT I EXPECT is, of course, a wake-up. Now I make a long press on the power button, and the computer turns off. Now I press the power key again, and... surprise: the computer starts and switches off before it boots. You can try several times. Then, I let it cool a bit. I turn it on, and it boots. A variation of this scenario is: 1. work on the laptop when it is on AC source 2. unplug the power supply, close the lid, go to a different place. 3. plug the power supply in 4. open the lid WHAT HAPPENS: the screen is dark, the cooler works, but nothing happens. Short presses on the power button do not help. WHAT I EXPECTED: I expected the computer to work. In fact, this happens because Ubuntu is by default configured to suspend when I close the lid. When I told it to do nothing, it stopped to hang, but I discovered that it cannot suspend. Probably, this is related to overheating. Or maybe there's a resource leak in Chrome plug-ins, but neither must affect the suspend behavior.
