** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel When closing the lid on my Dell D505 laptop, the computer hangs. The screen goes blank, but with the cursor showing (it does not move). No key-combinations work, and connecting to the laptop via SSH doesn't work. With my settings, the expected behaviour is that the screen should just go blank, and then come back when opening the lid. This is under Ubuntu 10.04, but I believe the same problem appeared during a brief attempt to use 09.10, 09.04, or both. It was not a problem before that (which can be either 09.04 or 08.10). My guess is that the problem came with the switch from the i810 driver to the intel driver. Adding Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf appears to have fixed the problem. I read about this fix in bug #138256. So my /etc/X11/xorg.conf now has the content: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device" Driver "intel" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true" EndSection ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.39-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic i686 Architecture: i386 CurrentDmesg: [ 18.040054] intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 54246 usecs (2614 samples) [ 18.040059] intel8x0: clocking to 48000 [ 27.560070] eth1: no IPv6 routers present [ 27.928021] eth0: no IPv6 routers present [ 45.595582] padlock: VIA PadLock not detected.
