Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Package: network-manager
Version: 0.6.4-6ubuntu7 on Feisty final

Hello,

I have a PC without any wireless connection and I simply use an ethernet
one. Since approximately NetworkManager 0.6, NetworkManager do not see
my network card, which is working through the "ne" kernel module. So, I
have a working connection but NetworkManager do not see any network
device (and so says that I'm not connected). This behaviour generates
other problems with programs like Gaim and Evolution, that believe to be
disconnected until I explicitly tell them they are not.

For example, if I run "nm-tool" I get:

~$ nm-tool

NetworkManager Tool

State: disconnected

print_devices(): didn't get a reply from NetworkManager.
There are no available network devices.

However I have a working connection:

~$ ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:20:18:B0:1D:F0
          inet addr:192.168.0.239  Bcast:192.168.0.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::220:18ff:feb0:1df0/64 Scope:Link

          RX bytes:79962752 (76.2 MiB)  TX bytes:9879967 (9.4 MiB)
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0x220

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:1200 (1.1 KiB)  TX bytes:1200 (1.1 KiB)

What's the problem? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

WindoM
