Public bug reported:
11.04 Beta has crashed out and will not load GUI at all. it flicks on
and off for a few seconds and then drops to a blank black screen. I can
then Alt+F5 etc into console.
I have gone to recovery console and tried the repair broken packages
option, it upgrades several packages but still the same problem. I have
run fsck still no better, and tried the low graphics mode.
I am running on a Acer 5735 Intel core 2 duo laptop with a SSD OCZ
Vertex 2 drive installed.
I first noticed the problem when running the matrix style screensaver. It once
before froze the screen on this screensaver, the caps lock/num lock keys would
work and the mouse would work but the screensaver would not cut out, the
computer would not sleep with lid shut. and CTRL+AlT+Del did not work. Only
option to hold power button. this worked fine the first time a few days ago but
on the second occasion, this blank screen with no GUI is the result.
I am not a fluent command line user and cannot find a way to bring GUI back.
I will attempt to download the full 11.04 that has been released today
and reload but not sure how I will get on.

PS: the download button on the main ubuntu homepage for the beta and now
the full 11.04 is giving a very slow download time for the iso standard
iso file.. 15 kbps, last time I found a different mirror and now I am
having to do the same, surely this is going to put some new users off.
