I did what candtalan did but with an installed version. When the nomodeset option is set in grub, there is no graphic corruption but the resolution falls back to 1024x768. The quiet and nosplash versions were set as well.
Gnome classic desktop with effects (compiz enabled) is extremely buggy with graphic corruption everywhere on the screen. I can confirm the issues mentioned by the above users. When logged in using gnome classic without desktop effects (using metacity instead of compiz), graphic corruption is far less. In this case, the nomodest option was removed. There are still minor graphic corruption around the screen. The screen flashes once in a while, especially when browsing the web.
