Still, lets investigate in that direction. Bug 657410 has isolated a problem with the USB 3.0 driver as the core suspend problem.
Try: before suspending unload the xhci_hcd module (that is the USB 3.0 driver) by typing in a terminal: sudo modprobe -r xhci_hcd if the command is successful try suspending.
