Skype is closed-source, proprietary, non-free software so it can't be
installed by default, sorry.
Can you try using 'Sound Recorder' in Applications-> Sound and Video to
record sound? If it's also quiet there, you should try right-clicking on
the volume control icon on the top right panel and selecting 'Open
Volume Control'. Playing around with the Recording volumes might help.
