I am running Ubuntu Classic, not Unity, but I have the same situation
with slightly different system information:

I don't have problems with crashes, but I appear to have no hardware
acceleration whatsoever when running OpenGL. The weird thing is that
applications report decent frame rates, but the numbers are obviously
bogus based on what I see on the screen.

I did a clean install, not an upgrade. The card was working fine with
the proprietary nVidia drivers on 10.04.
