Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
I maintain an ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx, 64-bit) server. I do it remotely
either on command line (using secure shell ssh) or in GUI (using ssh -Y
and then update-manager). And now what's the problem:
When I log in, I can see messages
15 packages can be updated.
10 updates are security updates.
I issue the command (on the server, not on local machine)
sudo update-manager
do check to refresh the information and then actually perform the update. All
items from the update-manager window disappear as they should to after
successfull update.
However: when I log out and then log in again (after few seconds) I
again get the same message on login:
15 packages can be updated.
10 updates are security updates.
OK, then (and many other times) I try to perform an update from command line
using
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
No positive result. Nothing is updated actually.
In summary, I observe disagreement between information in the graphical
update-manager and the text messages typed after log-in.
Finally I add that I want to keep Lucid on the server.
