The same problem too. First time I use a natty liveusb(amd64) to boot
into the live system, the sound works fine. But after I fully install
ubuntu and reboot into it, no sound(speaker and headphone) at all.
Well, the SUSPEND SOLUTION works fine.

#cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23.

#uname -r
2.6.38-8-generic

#aplay -l
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC269VB Analog [ALC269VB Analog]
   subdevice 1/1
   subdevice #0
card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  subdevice: 1/1
  subdevice #0

This problem troubled me for some times, and no solution(at least I
haven't found so far) affects.I'm waiting for any solutions. Thank you!
