I have a similar problem. Performed a distribution upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04. Received a black screen on reboot(for kernel 2.6.38-8), right after the grub menu. Changing /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi=off splash" allows me to boot with the most current kernel 2.6.38-8
Previous kernels on my system including 2.6.35-28, 2.6.32-25 etc., all boot fine, WITH OR WITHOUT "acpi=off". Dell Latitude D630 Graphics card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M Since I've added "acpi=off", the system freezes on Shut Down. I have to press the power button to turn off. Restart option works fine. Wired network, wireless network, printing, etc., all work fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775899 Title: Natty 11.04 crashes on startup: acpi=off OR downgrading to Kernel 2.6.37 allows boot. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
