Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

I have Kubuntu Feisty installed from scratch on my Toshiba Centrino
laptop with Intel Pro Wireless 2200 wireless card. I have had some
problems with network-manager in Ubntu Edgy but not like the ones I am
facing right now with Kubuntu Feisty. I have seen many posts on
ubuntuforums.org describing the problem that I am facing (although with
a different wireless card) and unfortunately there was no absolute
solution.

I am using knetworkmanager and I connect to two types of wireless
connections; one at my work place which has no encryption and I am able
to connect fine and the speed of downloading pages in swiftfox and
firefox seems fine and expected and the second wireless I connect to is
at my home which uses a WEP 64-bit open encryption. I am facing major
problems connecting and downloading pages with the connection at home.
In order to connect to the home wireless, I almost always have to
restart my laptop. Even if I get connected to my home wireless
connection, I can't download any pages or download anything, most of the
times. The connection is highly fluctuating. In addition, when the
connection seems dead, if I try to go offline and reconnect through
knetwork manager, it hardly reconnects. Once again, in order to connect
through knetworkmanager, I have to restart the machine.

I have been using the DNS server names from opendns.org since edgy and I
am using them even right now because I just get disconnected or
extremely slow connection without those DNS from opendns.org. I am not
able to get a proper network connection with the DNS my ISP provides. I
have even disabled ipv6, but doesn;t seem to make much of a difference.
I find the connection better with the opendns nameservers (I have locked
my resolv.conf with opendns entries) but even with opendns nameservers I
more than often see "waiting for..." at the bottom left of my browsers
for some seconds, or even a minute and sometimes not doing anything. The
"waiting for..." message is very common for me and I don't understand
what my browser is trying to do at that time technically. Even now, when
I am trying to submit this message I am seeing the "waiting for..."
message and it just stays that way instead of refreshing the page or
downloading a new one. I am always able to ping a website while all this
is happening with a ping rate of around 80-100 ms. Could you please
guide me as to what is going wrong here? I have been facing problems on
and off since almost 6 months and it is really discouraging. I am
pasting the following basic outputs which may help you analyze the
problem better:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# uname -a
Linux user 2.6.20-15-386 #2 Sun Apr 15 07:34:00 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

I am submitting this message because I didn't find any "attach" button
here. If I can see the option for attaching other outputs once I submit
this post, I will do so.
