Description of the problem:
The screen freezes : it take a uniform color (the default background color)
and shines smoothly from dark to bright cyclically (1 sec period approx)
Restarting gdm does not correct the problem : when X restarts the screen
gets frozen again in the same way (graphic driver problem ?)

Steps to reproduce:
1. login user "A"
2. switch user
3. login user "B"
4. switch user
5. login user "A" -> select reconnect to existing session

Solutions found:
Switch to tty1 and reboot
I do not use the "switch user" feature, I close the current session every time 
I switch user

Hardware:
Dell XPS 210
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 (driver i810)

Systems:
Problem reproduced on Ubuntu 6.10 and 7.04 (both after a fresh install)
