Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

I have Hp Compaq nx7400 laptop and after resume form suspend to ram and
hibernation to disk the brightness is not restored (I guess the
brightness is being reseted to the lowest possible value).

I can restore previous brightness by pressing "brightness up" key on the
keyboard. To set higher brightness I can also manually execute:
echo "X" > /proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness
where X can be one of these values: 100 51 30 37 44 51 58 65 72 79 86 93 100
(cat /proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness give this values, but echoing "100"
doesn't work and gives "bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument" error
message)

Another problem is that just after manual set of brightness level
"brightness up" and "brightness down" keys stop working :/

Maybe before suspend/hibernation some script could save current value of
/proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness
and after suspend/hibernation another script could restore it (echo to
/proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness).

I guess that "brightness up" and "brightness down" keys function
mechanically (bypass the operating system), because they do not change
value of /proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness.

** Affects: acpi-support (Ubuntu)
