I've tested the PPA archives and still no go, but I've realized that the issue seems to be caused by a customization I've made to my user. Since I need to work with projects made to run with Python 2.6 I linked $HOME/bin/python to /usr/bin/python2.6. I've never experienced the problem again after removing the link. If so, I don't know if this can be still considered a bug or not. In the latter case sorry for the false alarm. I will post a new comment in case the problem happens again even with that link removed.
