Oh, sorry for not ansering sooner. 
For me this problem does no longer occur, so it was probably fixed by an update 
that was released meanwhile. Since I also don't use GIMP very often, I didn't 
realize until recently. 
In the version of unity (and probably the bamfdaemon installed at that time), 
all you needed to do was to open a file and bring up the Save As...-Dialogue. 
Another way was to open 2 files at the same time. Pretty any dialogue out of 
the Filters-Menu triggered that bug. 
Long tale, short story: As soon as more than the intial 3 Windows associated 
with the GIMP were open, an additional icon appeared. 
Nevertheless, I'd suggest to mark this bug as fixed (although I can't tell 
which update of unity or bamfdaemon did the trick).
