My understanding of the issue is as follows. Tell me if I have it wrong. Ubuntu is going to provide an up-to-date Firefox (or Iceweasel?) but not an up-to-date XULRunner. Since Mozilla won't be backporting bugfixes to XULRunner under their new release cycle, this in theory exposes some security risks in any XULRunner app which allows browsing of untrusted content. But if Firefox is kept up-to-date, then launching Conkeror with 'firefox -app' instead of XULRunner would sidestep the problem of any unpatched security holes in XULRunner. Note, I haven't tried this myself yet; I'm just putting it out there as an open question.
