I can confirm this bug. In my case the panel gets black, but it is
definitely the same bug.
In fact, this is the main bug I have with Unity right now. Since my
laptop natural resolution is very high I need the zoom functionality a
lot (I have increased the font dpi, but java apps, for instance, don't
seem to respect that).
I tested all zoom plugins provided by compiz ("Zoom Desktop", "Enhanced
Zoom Desktop" and the "Magnifier" plugins) and all of them result in the
bug.
