Aha, now I understand. There is a LiveCD for Ubuntu 7.04. The wiki page you were looking at is out of date and not especially helpful. If you go to the main Ubuntu page here http://www.ubuntu.com/ you'll see a download link in a big red box. If you follow that and select Ubuntu 7.04 desktop edition (the default) you will get the liveCD. I suggest you try downloading and installing from that. If you still have problems with that then comment here and attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman from the failed install. If all goes well let us know and we can close the bug.
