Public bug reported:
Installation of Ubuntu 7.04 to a JFS '/' filesystem fails consistently
under test environment. The installer fails while "Copying files" or
"Configuring system". These titles may not be exactly right. To
reproduce this experiment install qemu-0.9.0. Use qemu-img to construct
a 5 GB unencrypted uncompressed qcow2 image. Boot
ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso. Use either the Manual tool for creating
partitions integrated with the installer or GNOME Partition Editor from
the System menu to construct a JFS partition at /dev/hda1, an Extended
partition at /dev/hda2 and a Logical partion for swap at /dev/hda5.
Formatting '/' with 'jfs_mkfs' is optional and does not affect the
outcome. Begin the installation. At some point the installer will fail
to make any forward progress despite many hours of waiting. The point
at which the installer fails to progress varies. Testing the installer
using all the default options resulted in an ext3 '/' partition which
installs and works perfectly under the same test environment.
