Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (ubuntu-server)
Release: 10.04
libsane Installed: 1.0.20-13ubuntu2

What you expected to happen:
To be able to use "saned" to share my scanner Epson DX-5050.

What happened instead:
When I tried to do "scanimage -L" as user "saned" it refused to find my
scanner. However running "sudo scanimage -L" it picked it up just fine.

It seems setfacl isn't being done properly using the rules found
"/lib/udev/rules.d/40libsane.rules", despite my scanner already being in
there by default.

What I have done to fix this:
First I had to create a group called "scanner" and made "saned" a member of it,
then created my own rule "/etc/udev/rules.d/99hazrpg.rules", copying the
relevant parts for my scanner and adding: GROUP="scanner". This solved the
problem. I have attached a copy of my rules file.

** Affects: sane-backends (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
