I believe that this bug can be closed, since the OP has discovered for himself how to boot into a CD and remove Ubuntu from his system. However, the syptoms he describes are certainly unusual (text across the purple desktop, etc). This should never be a result of unclean shutdown. Flaming Blaze, have you ever tried to install Ubuntu again on this machine?
