Several of the comments (31 and 43) refer to mobile phones. I have found
that the rfcomm bindings which create the bluetooth devices
(/dev/rfcommx) are not taking place either in 11.04 and one also has to
bind them manually by:

sudo rfcomm bind all

after the bluetooth restart

The combination of sudo bluetooth restart and sudo rfcomm bind all now
allows me to use gnome-ppp to connect all my phones.

Bluetooth also needs to be restarted after a suspend or hibernate on my
machine, a MSI Wind U100

Hopefully these are all going to be tested and sorted in the new kernel
