I am having the same bug as well, I think. I am reporting this on another computer, because I cannot seem to get ANY access to anything.
I installed 11.04 fresh (coming from an empty SSD), and then I updated after installation (as a separate step). Ubuntu booted up fine before the update, and then after the update no video works at all, not even when I do ctrl+alt+f1 to go to the terminal. Stuff still works (judging from sound, I can log in from GDM) but there's no display on the monitor at all. I can't seem to get the menu to show on GRUB2 either, so I can't edit the menu entry.
